About Window Monkey

This fun and useful shareware program monkeys with your windows (in a good way, of course). With Window Monkey installed on your computer, you'll be able to:
- Add different background patterns, pictures or textures to any window in the Finder, including servers. Patterns aren't just for desktops anymore!
- Use the handy Window Monkey menu to quickly go to any window in any application, even if it's buried beneath many other windows.
- Keep track of recently used folders and open them at any time with a click of the mouse.
- Instantly jump to any open or recently used folder from an Open or Save dialog box.
Window Monkey makes a great companion to other interface enhancements such as Kaleidoscope.
When you install Window Monkey, you'll work more easily with better-looking windows.
Screen Shots

If you'd like to see how cool the Window Monkey patterns can look, check out these screen shots:
You can also view a page with a bigger picture of a Window Monkey enhanced desktop.
Window Monkey includes 46 patterns to get you started, and you can add as many new patterns as you wish by simply pasting pictures into the Window Monkey control panel.
You can choose a single pattern for every folder on your disk with just one mouse click (and change it whenever you want).
Or you can use a different pattern for each folder Window Monkey is completely flexible!
One great way to use Window Monkey if you have multiple disks or servers is to give each disk a different background pattern.
Because every folder on each disk shows the same pattern, you'll instantly know which disk each window represents.
Don't forget that in addition to the fun patterns, Window Monkey adds this useful window navigation menu to every application.
You can use it to instantly go to any window in any application.
It also remembers folders you've recently opened, so you can instantly jump to a folder you were using a few minutes ago without digging through other folders to get to it!
You'll soon wonder how you ever got along without this incredibly handy feature.

Want More Patterns?

Looking for more background patterns once you have Window Monkey installed? Here are some extra sets of patterns you can download:
Function Patterns
Erik-Albert Englund created these 12 patterns especially for use with Window Monkey to better organize your files for example, you'll find stripes that look like green striped computer printouts.
Animal Patterns
Nine animal backgrounds: bats, giraffes, griffins, hippos, kangaroos, pandas, polar bears, rabbits and tigers. Oh my!
Food and Flower Patterns
Ten new backgrounds: cookies, donuts, egg candy, orange slices, daffodils, muscari, poppies, posies, sunflowers, and violets.
Mac OS Logo Patterns
Three patterns contributed by Wm. Cerniuk showcasing the Mac OS logo.

In addition to those files, here's some links to a few other sites that offer background textures, almost all of which can be used with Window Monkey.
Just download and decompress the patterns you want to use, then drag and drop each pattern file into the Window Monkey control panel. (The Window Monkey documentation has more information about importing patterns.)
If you have the Mac OS 8 CD-ROM, it includes 66 extra patterns you can use with Window Monkey. Open the "CD Extras" folder, then the "Additional Desktop Patterns" folder, then drag the "Additional Desktop Patterns" file into the Window Monkey control panel.
